Friday July 19 – At Sea

Last night we sat on our balcony and watched the whales at play as we sailed from Newfoundland.  Today, we woke to clear blue skies but by midday the fog had engulfed us and the fog horn started its mournful wail.  We sailed off the coast of Nova Scotia today.
We had a talk on New York and as this is Hutch’s home town he spoke non stop at a rapid rate for 90 minutes.  He is very knowledgeable and gave us lots of ideas of what can be done in this city that never sleeps.

We had another formal night tonight and after our lobster dinner we were entertained by the singers and dancers doing “Atlantic Showtime”.  They make it all seem so easy but last night we happened to be in the front row and we could see the perspiration on them.  Rumour had it that the were getting off in New York but when I spoke to one of the dancers last night he said that they are all on till Sydney.  This is great news.

There was no Tai Chi or dancing for us today as I cannot lift my left arm.  I read and kept putting ice on my arm.  I think there is a slight improvement.  As Bill watched the football he said I seem to have the same problem as one of the Dockers who injured his arm in the game. Bill is devastated NOT! Bill here: Perhaps a slight exaggeration as the player had just been hit by a 100 kg opponent at 30 km/hr! My ballroom dancing improvement has now suffered a severe setback with no partner. Our dance teachers Eric and Barbie are leaving us in New York. They have been most patient with their students. George is one of the great characters on board ship. Has a go at everything. As you can see, there is no lack of food on board.
